jan von holleben

i love jan von holleben. most of you probably know of his dreams of flying series (above) - or at least, initially heard of his work through the series, as i did.

though his claim to fame may be through that work, he has a certain accessibility underlying much of his aesthetic in a way that is both playful and tongue in cheek.

And if that wasn't awesome enough, his most recent work is proving that his aesthetic is much more versatile that the "magical tricks" (as he references them as) of his earlier work would have us believe. There is something quite vulnerable and touching about the images from Where We Laughed that strikes a different, more wistful (or melancholy, depending on your point of view) chord.
